Our mid-afternoon destination is the auberge (small country inn) 29km from Merzouga, where you meet your camel guide and ride into the bivouac (camp). Our afternoon destination is the auberge 29km from Merzouga, where you meet your camel guide and ride into the dunes to the bivouac (camp). Upon arrival you will have a traditional tagine dinner prepared (vegetarians welcome), under the evening stars shining brilliantly in the sky. Climb the dunes and watch the moon rise before retiring to your bed in the nomad wool tent. Or you have a choice (with extra cost) of a sunset camel trek into the dunes, staying in the desert auberge with relaxing dinner, and breakfast early the next morning. Day 3: Merzougua / Todra Gorgres Return by camel at sunrise to the auberge for breakfast and shower before going to Tinehir. Along the way we'll drive offroad, and pass through folded exposed rock slabs of fossils and we can stop and visit a fossil workshop for a closer look at Sahara’s wonderful varieties of ancient life. We'll have a visit to Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone walls rise to 300 m in its narrowest part. After lunch you can wander with a guide through palmeries, villages, gardens, and kasbahs for a close look at traditional Berber ways of life. Visit the market in Tinehir and old kasbah quarter. We will have a late afternoon arrival to stay in an old kasbah with evening Moroccan dinner by the pool. Day 4:Todra Gorgres/ Marrakech After breakfast the remainder of the day is spent driving back to Ouarzazate where we’ll stop for lunch and visit the old Glaoui Kasbah Taouirt. With a couple of button lifts and one chair lift that goes all the way to the top of the mountain, it’s a really fun day in the snow! Ski rental is available for 100 dirhams for skis, boots and poles, and an all day all lift pass costs 100 dirhams. If you don’t want to ski, you can rent snow boots and take the chair lift up the mountain for some stunning snow covered mountain scenery. Round trip on the chair lift for non-skiers is 25 dirhams. A day in nature 3 hours away. And if the weather is cool and rainy, even better! The falls swell with runoff and can be spctacular in the rain. The gorge below the falls is an endless series of pools that offer some fine day hikes with varying views up and down the valley. This future designated bioreserve is home to Barbary apes and makes for some interesting bird watching too. Nearby Berber villages in the surrounding mountains are perfect for walks any time of year, any kind of weather. Have lunch in one of the many terraced restaurants beside the falls, or just chill out with a glass of wine on a riad terrace overlooking the falls. This day involves walking on cliffside trails and stairs climbs. Not recommended in July and August.

The desert and steep mountain hillsides are clustered with fortified mud dwellings housing many families and their livestock. You'll spend the afternoon exploring the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, which has been used as a backdrop for more than 20 films and was one of the most important fortress strongholds on the old Salt Road caravan routes, where traders brought slaves, gold, ivory and salt from Saharan Africa to Marrakech and beyond. You may also visit Ouarzazate, and the Atlas film studios where films such as the Mummy, Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia etc. have been filmed; or take a walk in oasis riverside gardens at Tamdaught village; or offroad to Teleouet where you'll visit the old Glaoui kasbah. This kasbah has an amazing story behind it, that is intrinsically linked to the formation of Morocco as a country. It was once a beautiful kasbah but now stands crumbling to ruins because no one wants to remember "the vulture" sultan and his son "Thami" who lived here until the 1950's; adds about 2 hours, including loo stops etc. Recommended year round.
